NO, I AM NOT ADDING THE HAMMER, I STARTED THIS QUEST IN LIKE, 2001,
AND JUST FINISHED IT THIS YEAR (2003) AND I'M NOT GOING TO RE-DO
HALF THE FRIGGIN' QUEST JUST TO MAKE IT THAT MUCH MORE "AUTHENTIC."

YES, THE DEATH MOUNTAIN AREA IS LENGTHY, BUT THERE ARE CAVE PEOPLE
WHO TELL YOU THE CORRECT PATH. GET A PENCIL - DRAW A MAP! :)

ZELDA CLASSIC: "ADVENTURE OF LINK"
by pLeitorian (lord of the ferrets AT hotmail DOT com)
--------------------------------------------

The long-awaited sequel to "The Longest Journey" is
finally here! You are Link, hero and adventurer.
Princess Zelda has - once again - been captured by
Gannon and his minions. Your mission: rescue her by
gathering the 8 Triforce fragments from the
labyrinthine Hyrulian Temples. This will open the
entrance to the Grand Temple, where you will fight
your final battle with Gannon.

"Adventure of Link" is an adaptation of the video game,
"Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" which was originally
released for the 8-bit NES. It has been altered to the
Zelda Classic "overworld" style of play, but the room
layout in Temples 1-5 and Temple 8 are excellent
imitations of the six palaces in the original "Z2"
game. Also, the overworld and enemies are laid out in
a manner which should be somewhat reminiscent of the
original. Keep in mind that it obviously cannot be an
exact duplicate; however, it's the next best thing.

One more feature of "Adventure of Link" is Towns! There
are eight towns in this game, very similar to the
original game. The Lens of Truth, Small and Large Wallets,
Master Sword and Superbombs are all somewhere in the game
as well. Some are needed; others are not, but are rewards
for successful exploring and/or fighting.

So, what's in "Adventure of Link?"

- BS Zelda graphics - plus some new ones of my own design
- 8 towns to explore
- HC Pieces, Wallets, Lens of Truth, Master Sword, Superbombs
- Original room layouts never seen before in any ZC quest
- Lots of new secret styles never seen in "Longest Journey"
- 9 Temples, increasing in difficulty
- No sadistic rooms full of 10 Patras or anything nuts ...
unless you go looking for them off-map! So the main quest
is relatively easy, but there are "extra" challenges for
the diehard ZC fans, making this a well-balanced quest that
I think finally has the "right mix" to please all.
- Gameplay and characters that mimic the original "AOL"
- Swamp terrain, just like the original "AOL"
- Thoughtful scenery
- Deliberate, painstaking debugging process. There should be
less than 10 bugs in the final release and absolutely none
of them should affect the game play.
- I personally play through and test every aspect of the game
from beginning to end, TWICE, before release. I go to every
  screen and play without cheating.

Hints and tips -- Getting Started

- The people in the towns can tell you lots of things. Talk
  to all of them!
- You need some items before you start fighting. Look for them
in the towns of Rauru and Ruto. You should be able to get
to them just by dodging enemies. There are some bombs in
North Temple (the start) to help you out if you're stuck.
- Play the temples in order and don't quit one before moving
to another. Mucking up the key sequence makes the game much
harder. Keys cost $200 in one town, and there are absolutely
no exceptions. This is also your incentive to find the Magic
Key, instead of buy keys. Most of Level 8 has locked doors.
- This game is a whole lot easier if you played the original
  "Zelda 2."
- Don't forget to push every block, kill every enemy, and
basically leave no stone, bush, screen, etc. unturned.
- The wooden sword and white sword are in towns, but the
magic sword and master sword are hidden elsewhere. The
magic sword is in the Overworld somewhere. The master
sword... you're on your own! It's very late in the game. In
fact you have to beat Ganon if you want to find the hints that
will lead you to it. Here's a hint: the Master Sword, Mirror
Shield, and Fire Boomerang are all on the same Dmap !!

- Potions are very helpful, especially in the later levels.
Never try to tackle a temple without the blue potion.
Don't even ponder Grand Temple without the red potion!

The second phase is going to the south through the Ruto cave to Saria and the 2nd Temple.
When you finish the 2nd Temple you can get the White Sword and take on Death Mountain to
get the Power Bracelet (or continue on to Mido, but you'll want to go back later for the
power bracelet anyway).

The third phase is wrapping up your business in the west: exploring blockaded caverns,
going to Mido, and getting the Raft from the Island Temple.

The fifth phase is the southeast - the Spider, Starship, and Hidden Temples and the

The seventh phase (optional, anytime) is looking for the Mirror Shield, Master Sword,
Fire Boomerang, and treasures in secret labyrinths.
